(Timonium, MD – December 3, 2012) The deadline for nominating stallion to the Maryland Million program is now January 31, 2013. Maryland stallions must pay a fee equal to their 2013 stud fee (with a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $20,000) to make the foals that are conceived in the 2013 breeding season eligible for the program.
“Since the December deadline came at a busy time at the end of the of the year the new nomination deadline is January 31st ,” says Cricket Goodall, executive director, “it is our hope that every foal by every Maryland stallion will be eligible for the Maryland Million program.” For his foals to be eligible the stallion must be nominated by January 31st. There is no longer am additional fee to nominate the foals
The Maryland Million program was modeled on the Breeders’ Cup, and Jim McKay Maryland Million Day is now celebrated as “Maryland’s Day at the Races”. With over $1 million in purses and awards paid annually nearly $30 million had been paid since the launch in 1986.
