Maryland Million Fall 2018 Internship Opportunity

Are you looking to gain experience in the Thoroughbred racing industry? We are looking for a Fall 2018 intern!

This internship will provide the intern with valuable experience in coordinating and executing a large-scale racing event while making connections within the Maryland Thoroughbred industry. The intern will also be exposed to the other entities affiliated with Maryland Million Ltd., which include – Maryland Horse Breeders Association, Maryland Horse Industry Foundation, and Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred magazine.


LOCATION: Maryland Million Ltd. Offices – Towson, MD (some off-site work)

DURATION: September 4-October 22, 2018
HOURS: Average 10-20 hours/week (M-F 8am-5pm; some weekends)
*We will be flexible and consider the intern’s existing schedule but the intern must be available to work on a number of event days.

Working with the Asst. Executive Director on the final stages of production for the 2018 running of Jim McKay Maryland Million Day. Some specific duties will include:
• Sponsorship – working with Asst. Executive Director and sponsors to ensure that all of their needs are met and that we have everything we require from them
• Ticketing – Assist in mailing invitations, recording RSVPs and distributing tickets leading up to the event
• Live & Silent Auction – recruit and collect items, write item descriptions for Gala program, assist with editing Gala program
• Hospitality - serve as a host and assist with execution of all events leading up to and on Maryland Million Day (Saturday, October 20th)

• Strong English language (speaking and writing) background
• Interest in and basic knowledge of the Thoroughbred industry in Maryland
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google business apps (gmail, drive, etc)
• Knowledge of how to use social media in a business setting
• Willingness to learn and “jump in” when needed, ability to work with a team

This is a paid internship, but we can also help interns pursue academic credit. Interns receive $10/hour for all hours worked (on average between 10-20 hours/week). A car is required and the intern must be willing to drive to various locations for events (i.e. Laurel Park, Maryland Club, etc.).
