Maryland Million Matchmaker Stallions Announced

Jim McKay Maryland Million Day celebrates Maryland's stallions and the critical role they play in the state's Thoroughbred industry. For the second year in a row, stallion owners have come together to make the Maryland Million Matchmaker a reality. This opportunity is a "cherry on top" for stakes winners on Maryland's Day at the Races!
For 2017, the owner and breeder of the winner in each of the Maryland Million stakes races will have the opportunity to breed a mare to one of the two stallions named on the race they win. See which stallions are allocated to each of the races in the table below. All terms and conditions are outlined below the table.

Terms and Conditions:

  • The owner & breeder of the winner in each Maryland Million stakes race are eligible to select a breeding to one of the  stallions named on the race they win.
  • We will not be giving preference to the owner or breeder, so it is possible for both to select the same stallion.
  • All Matchmaker seasons are not for resale and are non-transferable, they can only be used for the 2018 breeding season.
  • The seasons are offered no-guarantee and require that the selected mare be suitable for breeding.

Maryland Million Ltd. Partners with Christine A. Moore Millinery

 camhatslogo copy 2Christine A. Moore Millinery has been named The Official Milliner of Jim McKay Maryland Million Day – Maryland’s Day at the Races – to be run October 21st at Laurel Park.

Established in 1994, Christine A. Moore Millinery is based in New York City. Christine is best known for her explosive racing styles for the Kentucky Derby, two of which are in the Kentucky Derby Museum. She has designed Oaks and Derby hats for Kentucky’s former First Lady Jane K. Beshear and Preakness hats for former Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake as well as current Mayor Catherine Pugh.

"I am so honored to be named official milliner of the Maryland Million and to work with their wonderful staff. Maryland has a time honored tradition of horse racing, and I am blessed to have been involved in it for years, and to have met so many wonderful horse lovers and fans!" Moore said.

This announcement comes in conjunction with the launch of the first annual Maryland Million Hat Contest, which will take place at 2:30pm in the Laurel Park Clubhouse (2nd floor) on Jim McKay Maryland Million Day. Contest categories include Best Maryland-Themed Hat, Best Ladies’ Hat and Best Dressed Couple - from top to toe!

The winner of each category will receive a trio of wonderful prizes including two VIP tickets to 2018 Maryland Million Day, two tickets to the Turfside Terrace on Black-Eyed Susan Day and a custom-made hat from Christine A. More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's and by 2050, this number could rise as high as 16 million. The odds are that everyone knows someone close to them who is touched by this disease. Carol Kaye Wins 2nd Annual Maryland Million Art Contest


Maryland breeder Carol Kaye is the winner of the 2nd Annual Maryland Million Art Contest. The piece, titled, "Celebrating a Maryland Million Win," is an oil painting on canvas inspired by a celebration with friends after a win on Jim McKay Maryland Million Day.
